Important: Patient data update in the NHS and opt-out system
Last week the NHS patient data opt-out has come in to force.
The NHS has launched the ‘Your Data Matters to the NHS’ campaign. This campaign aims to inform the public that the strict rules about how health and care data can and cannot be used have been strengthened.
From the 4th June (Monday), the next phase of the campaign will concentrate on letting the public know more about how they can choose whether their confidential patient information is used for research and planning. A new website nhs.uk/your-nhs-data-matters has been launched which allows the public to find out more about how their data is used across health and care and to make this choice.
Your Data Matters to the NHS is a website which provides information about your health and care helps us to improve your individual care, speed up diagnosis, plan your local services and research new treatments.
In May 2018, the strict rules about how this data can and cannot be used were strengthened. The NHS is committed to keeping patient information safe and always being clear about how it is used.
