NHFT have produced a campaign focusing on support mental health over the Christmas period

“I don’t feel the Christmas spirit this year.”

Christmas songs are playing on the radio, the Christmas decorations are out of the loft and you may have cracked open that tub of festive chocolates. The lights and food can be magical, but if you’re not feeling in the festive spirit – this time of year can be difficult.

NHFT (Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust) IAPT have put together some information on how you can prioritise your mental wellbeing, and how you can reach out for support if you need a helping hand to get back on track.

  1. Talk to someone, sometimes just talking and making contact with another person can make you feel much better. This can be a relative, a friend or a professional. Make the most of technologies and connect with loved ones this Christmas.
  2. Try to organise a sleep routine, go to bed at the same time and get up at the same time. Sleep is essential to your wellbeing.
  3. Try to write down three positive things a day you have achieved. These do not need to be big as sometimes just posting a letter is an achievement. This small step to refocusing your mind set can help you to improve your overall outlook.
  4. Set some small goals for your day that are achievable to give you a sense of purpose.
  5. Most importantly be kind to yourself, it's okay not to be okay. This year has been difficult for all of us, you’re doing well.

NHFT’s Changing Minds IAPT team are here to support you, a loved one, friend or colleague in the run up to Christmas. The service is for anyone over the age of 17 and a half and living in Northamptonshire.

Or call 0300 999 1616 (9 to 5 weekdays).
