Takeover Day sees organisations across England opening their doors to children and young people to take over adult roles. It puts children and young people into decision-making positions and encourages organisations and businesses to hear their views. Children and young people gain insight into the adult world and organisations benefit from a fresh perspective on their work.

At Kettering General Hospital Young Healthwatch attended a Patient Experience and Involvement Steering Group, got to visit the Clinical Skills Lab and had a tour of Pathology to see what happens to a blood sample once it has been taken. They then presented their report of Young Healthwatch’s recent visit of children’s services to senior members of the Kettering General Hospital staff and had a question and answer session with Kettering General Hospital Chief Executive Simon Weldon.

“It was a really fantastic day. The hospital gave Young Healthwatch a real taste of the working world and gave them the opportunity to take over the Patient Experience and Involvement Steering Group. The young people involved really enjoyed the experience”
