Texting

Access to mainstream crisis services for D/deaf and hard-of-hearing people is almost non-existent and yet they are twice as likely to experience mental health problems.

Shout are offering a free text service available for times when people feel they need immediate support.

If you are D/deaf or hard of hearing, cannot speak on the phone and are experiencing a crisis, you can text 'DEAF' to 85258.

A trained crisis volunteer will respond and reflect on what you've said. They will invite you to share the information you feel comfortable with. The crisis volunteer will help you sort through your feelings, supporting you until you feel more calm and safe.
